It’s official!

There is more snow than there has ever been in Whistler. It’s pretty gnarly! There have been days and days of non stop snow. Every morning when I wake up there’s another 30cm or so of fresh powder. Yesterday it was to my waist.

Life lines

What’s not so cool is the lift lines. Yesterday (November 19), I woke up and got down to the lift at approximately 8:40am, like usual. That’s 10 mintues after it opened. There was a lineup to get on that had to be about 1000 people long. For those of you that know Whistler, it extended all the way back to Ric’s Grill when I arrived and extended back to Citta shortly after. I don’t really think that Whistler/Blackcomb did a great job anticipating that, but then again, who could. We need more lift lines open and we need more terrain.

Open terrain

There is a lot of terrain that’s open, but there for sure needs to be more. I have heard rumours that they are going to open Harmony, and that’s obvious. The reason that it’s been delayed, is because of the avalanche warning. I’ve heard bombs go off every morning and it’s pretty crazy. It’s not hard to get fresh lines when you’re on the mountain though. There is plenty of stuff to hit. I hit some of the trees below the Franz chair and there was fresh snow up to my head. Don’t fall it in, because you can get stuck it in for what seems like hours! It’s great though, best get up there!

Blackcomb Opening?

I was on the lift and spoke to an older gentleman who claimed that if we have more people here this weekend than we had last weekend, Blackcomb will be open on Satuday. If that’s the case, WAHOO! There is an entire mountain of 250cm of snow that is untouched. We’re all waiting to get onto Spanky’s! It’s going to be awesome. So much snow and nobody is skiing it. It’s just waiting there.

Terrain park?

What a joke this is! There’s nothing there! Whistler Blackcomb is the #1 resort for almost everything and they open up the park with 4 rails. I understand that most people care about the pow, which is fine and dandy, but 4 rails is still pretty pathetic. It’s actually two and two, meaning you can’t hit four consecutive rails, have to choose between the right or left, twice. Argh! I hope they they dump a lot of money and time and bring it back to the stature that it should be at. I will give them a break because the mountain isn’t even supposed to be open yet, but still.

Crowds this weekend?

You bet there are crowds. It’s been on the news across North America. There is more snow in Whistler than ever! I’ve had people call me from across the country telling me that I’m so lucky. Facebook is filled with Whistlerites freaking out because there is so much snow. You best believe there are going to be insane crowds this weekend. I’m probably going to chill out off the mountain to avoid the crowds. At least until some more terrain opens up.

Cheers, be safe!
