I read this article in the Vancouver Sun and I’m kind of curious as to everyone’s reaction.
The subject of the article discusses how athletes and their families have (for example) The Canada House for Canadians, The Russian House for Russians, etc. Now there is a Pride House, it’s created by the GayWhistler organization to break down gender barriers.
“It is really important to have a safe space for out athletes, coaches, fans and allies to come and hang out, share their stories, trade pins and have fun,” said one of the organizers, Dean Nelson, to the Vancouver Sun.
I’m just curious as to what your reaction to this is. I wonder if you think that rather than break down boundaries, it creates bigger boundaries and segregation.
It’s important to read the article, because there are some justifying arguments.

There are still countless attacks against Gay and Lesbians, even here in BC. In Whistler (was it last year) a transgendered mountain bike competitor was booed while receiving her medal. While this hate continues, there needs to be places where the GBLT community can feel safe and can feel free to be themselves and not hide their identity.
The Pride House is the first (and so far only) positive thing I associate with the Vancouver 2010 Olympics.
