This isn’t the most recent news, it’s about a month old. There is a new bylaw in Whistler. It’s nothing totally new and, or crazy, it’s just a new law that requires that any dwelling (commercial, institutional, or industrial) have a wildlife-proof garbage storage container outside the building if they’re not holding their garbage inside. Same goes for residential homes that occupy more than 12 people.
If you don’t know. Bears do run around Whistler everywhere. Often people ask me “Hey Nick! Have you ever seen a bear?” I tell them in the 6 weeks of autumn that I’ve spent in Whistler I saw 3 bears… in the village.
If bears come in contact with humans, or if they get too close to humans too often, the bear is killed. It’s really important to keep your food away from the bears.
