So, Canada.com is reporting that the municipality of Whistler is spending a lot of money on Olympic tickets. To be specific, Whistler is spending $36,950 on 174 Olympic tickets. That’s just over $212 a ticket. Not too shabby, really, I guess.
That may seem like a lot of money, but that’s taken out of the $500,000 hosting-expense budget. So it’s not like we were ever going to see that money for something useful anyway.
The tickets are going to be given away to promote the resort and to recognize outstanding individuals.
Tourism Whistler is buying 136 tickets worth $14,660 for business clients.
Vancouver is dropping $340,000 and Richmond is spending $196,000.
I don’t really know how to react to something like this. If you have a reaction to this, please leave a comment.
I guess before I react at all I’d like a little more information - specifically, what is their intended use for these tickets? Who will end up using them?
Hopefully there’s a net gain to the community with this investment? I’d like to believe that’s the council’s true intention…
