There has been a report of a snowboarder that triggered an avalanche in DOA on March 1st.
Apparently, the snowboarder had been witnessed falling down the hill and slowly sinking up to his waist in snow. The rider came to a stop before he was completely buried. Following this, ALL of his friends went in together to pull him out.
This isn’t the smartest move. This could have triggered another avalanche which would have buried every single one of them and they could have all been killed.
You need to respect the mountain and know what you’re doing. Avalanches kill people all the time. ALL THE TIME!
Currently the avalanche risk is high.
I’m going to be taking an avalanche course as soon as I can. They’re super cheap and the knowledge will be with you the rest of your life (which will be a long time, because you won’t die from an avalanche).
If you want to take a course Whistler Alpine Guides Bureau is one of the best places to do it. Check the link below and get yourself into a course ASAP.
