One of the most important things about being in a community is understanding that your community is here for you.

Even though Whistler is a community with a lot of people who weren’t born, or raised here, we do make up the community together and we need to depend on one another to live life without strife.

I’d like to bring up some of the services that are available here in the Sea To Sky corridor. Particularly the Counselling and Outreach Services For Women in Whistler. Often, abuse is swept under the rug. We, as a community can change that.

Have you ever?

  • Been put down or controlled by your partner?
  • Been assaulted?
  • Experienced childhood abuse?
  • Been abused in a relationship?
  • Blamed yourself?
  • had feeling of hopelessness?
  • Felt you were alone?
  • Felt afraid, worthless and ashamed?

These are some of the signs that you should watch out for. By calling Outreach Services you can speak with someone who can help you:

  • Feel better about yourself.
  • Define your personal boundaries.
  • Develop healthy relationships.
  • Understand why abuse happens.
  • Recognize emotional, psychological, financial and physical abuse.

Some of the services that are available to those in need are:

  • Referals to safe housing, transition houses, etc.
  • Advocacy, accompaniment & local transportation to medical, legal and social services, etc.
  • Education, information, and resources.

These services are here, and if you’re in need of them, you should use them.

Best wishes in your future endeavours.
