Ecstacy
Whether or not people would like to admit it, drugs are a used and available here in Whistler.
New Years Eve is a night where a lot of people go out and party and don’t think about the consequences that come with taking street drugs.
Over the last week there has been more than one drug related deaths involving ecstasy and MDMA. People have partied, consumed, slept and died. Both male and female, both new and ‘experienced’ users. This can happen to you.
I’d like to offer my sincerest condolences to those families who’ve lost loves ones recently. It’s such a tragedy. I’m truly sorry for your loss. Let’s prevent more and spread awareness.
Drugs are not a joke, and you really need to know what you’re doing if you decide to take drugs. I, in no way, condone the use of drugs, but realistically, it’s necessary to outline some of the safer ways to consume drugs.
NEVER CONSUME UPPERS AND DOWNERS
Alcohol is a downer. If you decide to take Ecstasy, speed, cocaine, or any other powder or pill, Don’t drink. Don’t consume sleeping pill to force yourself to go to sleep. Don’t mix other medications with street drugs. It can kill you. People have been dying.
NEVER DRINK WHEN CONSUMING HARD DRUGS
A lot of people think that consuming drugs and drinking go hand in hand, but it’s one of the most dangerous things you can do. Never consume drugs and alcohol together. It’s a cocktail for death. It happens, and it’s the leading reason for drug related deaths.
USE IN MODERATION
It’s a very bad idea to take a lot of drugs. If drugs aren’t working, it’s probably because they’re cut with some sort of substance that isn’t what you think it is. Meaning: the cocaine you’re taking that isn’t working, is probably some sort of weak, home made speed or efferdrine. This can cause rapid heart rate and will kill you. Even if you’re 17 years old with a strong heart.
UNDERSTAND YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU’RE GETTING
Often, like I mentioned above, drugs aren’t what you think they are. They’re cut. Meaning: drug producers will give you a small percentage of the drug you’re buying and a large percentage of some other substance that will ‘fatten’ up the count. You don’t know what most of what your taking is. You can’t pretend to. Your drug dealer doesn’t know. If they pretend to, they’re naive.
KEEP AN EYE ON FRIENDS
If you know that your friends are partying really hard and are taking large amounts of drugs, keep an eye on them. Make sure they don’t over consume. If people are getting really pale, if their eyes are rolling, if they’re spaced out, if they’re sweating, if they’re clenching their jaw, if they’re incoherent, they need to stop and chill out. Keep them relaxed and hydrated.
STAY HYDRATED
If you’re taking drugs, consume lots of water. There are a lot people who don’t realize how dangerous being dehydrated is, but it’s one of the contributing factors to brain damage and death. Stop. Drink water. Drink water. Drink water.
CALL 911 WHEN YOU NEED TO
You’re not going to get charged, or in trouble if you help someone. It’s about safety. You don’t want someone to die. If you notice a problem call 911. All the recent death probably could have been prevented if someone stopped to call the paramedics.
IF YOU KNOW SOMEONE WITH DRUG ISSUE - GET THEM HELP
There are several ways to do this. Contact Whistler Community Services Society and talk about what’s going on. You can reach them through the website above, or calling 604-932-0113 and emailing admin@mywcss.org. It will never hurt to talk to someone for help. This is what we’re here for.
This isn’t a joke. Be safe. Watch out for your friends. Above all. Don’t do drugs.
